We’re Mark and Caroline, the UK based owners and founders of Sovereign-Gear. We started Sovereign-Gear in 2016 with the simple mission of offering customers products that they would love and cherish. With that in mind we have always put quality above everything else. We try to spread the benefit and give back to others along the way and so support charities where possible.
At Sovereign-Gear we aim to make journals and notebook covers that are both beautiful and impossible to leave empty; bookmarks which encourage and add pleasure to reading and learning. We love creating unique rustic items to inspire and provide the best possible way for our customers to develop their ideas and creativity.
So why the focus on leather journals and bookmarks? Well, we’re forever making notes and in this digital age, we still take pleasure in putting pen to paper.
Spending our down time reading and often losing our place in our books made us want to create something practical yet special that would enrich our everyday lives. We chose leather simply because it’s luxurious - it looks good, feels good, smells so good and just gets better with age.
Quality is key for all our products and so the leather we use is top grain and is thicker than other products on the market. All designs used to emboss our stylish tactile products are designed in-house and protected by copyrights and registered designs. If you see any of our designs on a product that does not bear our SG logo it is not produced by us so please be wary. We ensure all our products are functional, durable and superbly crafted, so that you don’t have to think about anything but how best to enjoy them.
Our main supplier is a small family run business employing local artisans who skilfully craft the handmade, gorgeous products we feel privileged to sell. They use only the finest leather and products with distinctive characteristics as well as being the most environmentally friendly; paper in our journals is made from tree-free materials and all packaging is made from recycled products where possible. They ensure that at all stages of production, they engage in fair trade practices for employees and use only sustainable means of production with the lowest carbon footprint.
When you make a purchase from Sovereign-Gear, you also have the knowledge that you’re making a difference because we give a % of our profits to the Afrinspire charity. They support African projects which help reduce poverty and improve the lives of so many in East African communities. Working at grass roots level, they focus on the education of children and young people, female empowerment, employment and enterprise.
